Steel Structure Workshop for Food Processing Plants in Zambia

Junnan designed and manufactured a metal workshop buildings for food processing in Zambia. The entire project consists of four floors, with a total building height of 21 meters. Each floor is equipped with heavy machinery weighing over one ton. This facility is a large-scale steel workshop building, which requires substantial column and beam sections. We utilized high-strength steel to support the loads imposed by the heavy equipment.

The structural steel columns used in this project are box sections, while the steel beams are H-shaped sections. Given that the total building height exceeds 20 meters and each column segment is less than 12 meters long, the steel columns required on-site welding. The H-shaped steel beams are connected to the columns using bolts. For each floor, the platform beams are designed as primary and secondary beams to ensure overall stability and rigidity. Galvanized metal decking is installed on each floor, and concrete is poured on-site.

Compared to concrete structures, steel buildings offer a significantly faster construction pace, allowing the entire metal structure to be delivered ahead of schedule. This enables owners to commence operations and production sooner, thereby enhancing the overall economic efficiency of the project.

Steel structures also exhibit superior seismic performance. Due to the inherent flexibility of steel, the material can dissipate seismic energy effectively. Steel is an anisotropic material with high tensile, compressive, and shear strength, coupled with excellent ductility. Particularly, the high flexibility of steel structures reduces seismic response. Metal structures are considered relatively ideal elastic-plastic systems, capable of absorbing and dissipating earthquake energy through controlled plastic deformation, thus offering enhanced earthquake resistance.

Additionally, metal frame buildings are lighter in weight compared to other structural types, which further mitigates seismic impact. Beyond their high seismic performance, steel structures also benefit from shorter construction periods and industrialized fabrication processes, making them highly efficient for modern construction projects.
